Here’s a Cool Shot | Song of The Sea

Before the Cartoon Saloon produced The Breadwinner, they made another visually stunning film called Song of the Sea. It tells the story of Ben and his sister with whom he discovers that the fairy tales their mum used to tell them are in fact true, and now they find themselves on an adventure to save … Continue reading Here’s a Cool Shot | Song of The Sea

Here’s a Cool Shot | The Poor Little Rich Girl

Mary Pickford was huge back in the silent era of filmmaking. She was one of the first true film stars and would go on to have an amazing career, in which she’d create a company together with Chaplin, Griffith and Douglas Fairbanks, though unfortunately her career would come to a halt when silent films disappeared … Continue reading Here’s a Cool Shot | The Poor Little Rich Girl

Here’s a Cool Shot | Hell’s Hinges

As you might know, I recently started University. At university, one of my classes is "film history", where we watch and discuss older films, but where we’re also thought about the evolution of film from its invention up until the early 30’s. During this class, we watched one of the first feature-length films ever called … Continue reading Here’s a Cool Shot | Hell’s Hinges

In the series, we follow how Leigh (Olsen) … Continue reading Here’s a Cool Shot | Sorry for Your Loss

Here’s a Cool Shot | 12 Angry Men

Recently I watched 12 Angry Men, and I really loved it. It’s a brilliantly written, directed, and acted film, filled with interesting camera movements where the director would suddenly switch the subject it was following, to symbolize the sudden change of stance the characters could go through. It’s a finely crafted film all-around, with gorgeous … Continue reading Here’s a Cool Shot | 12 Angry Men

Here’s a Cool Shot | Mission Impossible

The first Mission Impossible is gorgeously directed, but it was this shot in particular that stood out the most to me. It makes use of De Palma’s trademark split diopter focus and it's composed in an interesting way, which is what I’ll talk about in the next few words.

Here’s a Cool Shot | The Childhood of a Leader

Without having heard of it before, I randomly selected a film on Netflix, called The Childhood of a Leader. I wanted to watch a film with post-Twightlit Robert Pattinson in it since he’s actually a really good actor. While he doesn’t appear often in this film, he does play a pivotal role and even without … Continue reading Here’s a Cool Shot | The Childhood of a Leader

Here’s a Cool Shot | The Spectacular Now

Here’s a Cool Shot is something new I’d like to introduce to my blog, where I present you a, you guessed it, cool shot. It’s something I’d like to do fairly often so that I’m able to upload twice a week. These posts will have a short explanation (this one ended up waaay longer than … Continue reading Here’s a Cool Shot | The Spectacular Now
